Practicing Radical Acceptance With Tristan McKenzie
In this episode, my best friend of 22 years joins the podcast to share her journey and experience in psychology, graduate school, and integrating a practice called "radical acceptance" into her life. A skill taught by Dr. Marsha Linehan, psychologist and creator of DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), radical acceptance brings together the idea of human behavior and concepts like mindfulness, emotional regulation, and acceptance of reality.
Tristan explores what motivated her to take the psychology path, as well as her inspirations for her current dissertation work on the intersectionality of privileges within the counseling community. We talk about the different aspects of what radical acceptance means in our lives, coming from both evidence-based and spiritual/Buddhist backgrounds. She shares her wisdom and experience teaching radical acceptance to community populations, both young and old, and even leaves a tip or two for you to practice in your own life!
